About Northeast Law Network (NELN)
North East Law Network (NELN) was formed by a network of young lawyers from Northeast India. The NELN lawyers have been conducting free legal aid training and awareness programmes to sensitize the northeast people living in cities and also conduct sensitisation programmes for non-northeast people about the society and culture of Northeast India. NELN have also been working incessantly to provide free legal assistance to Northeastern people living in metro cities such as Delhi - NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Northeast states etc., who frequently face discrimination, sexual assaults and many other forms of injustice meted out to them on the basis of their looks.
Since the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, there is a need to expand the work of the organization as most of the Northeast youth are going through lots of challenges both in metro cities and the Northeast region. Hence, a new initiative i.e., North East Law Network (NELN) was formed by a network of young lawyers from Northeast India. Across all the North East States the NELN and NESCH conducted trainings and fact findings on various issues such as the right to food and starvation deaths, reproductive rights of pregnant women and lactating mothers, health rights vis-a-vis, the deplorable Public Healthcare System, the rights of PLHIV, gender justice, disability rights.
